The intervention is made possible by DMAs (District Metering Areas): this operation divides the network structure of an aqueduct in districts to improve its management, a more traditional approach compared to the monitoring of water or mass balances. The DMAs method optimizes the pressure fields with an immediate benefit in the reduction of lost volumes, allowing for a targeted search for leaks in the districts that are at particular risk.
The districting process is divided into two phases: segmentation of the aqueduct network structure and hydraulic districting. In the Municipality of Altamura, 145 total stations and 7 DMAs are being created. On the other hand, the Municipality of Bitetto is setting up 6 DMAs and 47 flow and pressure measuring stations, with additional setting adjustment of the pressure reduction valves (PVR) that are already present inside the point of origin of the urban distribution (ODU), located along the SP 206. In the Municipality of Santeramo in Colle, 86 total stations and 8 DMAs are under construction. In addition to district subdivision, work is also underway to replace old and damaged trunks.
