PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS

The Bari Ovest purification plant serves most of the city, its industrial area and some neighbouring municipalities. By separating and filtering pollutants, the plant obtains a clear and purified liquid suitable for sea discharge through underground pipelines.

The project plans for the optimization of the sludge pipeline servicing the treatment plant, thanks to cogeneration, a technology that produces the necessary power to heat sludge inside the digestion tanks.

The biofuel produced by the sludge during the digestion phase will be used to feed a cogenerator, that will in turn produce the power used inside the plant and the necessary thermal energy for the sludge heating process.

The biofuel produced by the sludge during the digestion phase will be used to feed a cogenerator, that will in turn produce the power used inside the plant and the necessary thermal energy for the sludge heating process.

This technology allows for a sizeable reduction in the power costs currently faced for treatment plant operation, while also reducing the environmental impact generated by thermal plant conventional techniques.
