For the restoration project of the Cathedral Basilica of Gravina in Puglia, Cobar adopted a careful and meticulous approach, that would ensure the material integrity of the work and the preservation of its spiritual value.

The works carried out, and devised in compliance with the current techniques of monument restoration, are divided into three lots.

In the first lot, work was carried out on the roof of the north aisle, with the removal of roofing tiles, the underlying wooden support boards and the wooden reinforcement of the roof; the extradossal consolidation of the vaults of the attic was then carried out and the new waterproofing covering was laid.

In the second lot for the same aisle, the roof reinforcement in chestnut wood has been created, consisting of trusses, struts, purlins and closing planks above; the roof of the south aisle has been dismantled, the entire wooden reinforcement apparatus of the roof has been created and the vaults of the attic have been consolidated.

In the third lot, the laying of a protective sheathing structure for the south aisle was carried out and the covering of the central aisle was restored. The restoration procedure included the dismantling of the roofing tiles, the consolidation of the roof trusses, the laying of the closing planking with the purlins below and the subsequent laying of the protective sheathing, while roofing protection was being completed.

Therefore, the restoration envisioned the completion of the roof covering for the entire basilica, the consolidation and the recovery of the bell tower and the external walls (with the Bossong – Cintec anchoring method), the restoration of the decorative stone elements (masks, rosettes, portals) and the internal wooden ceiling, with its 18-century paintings.
